Nelumbo nucifera — large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.
Jianxuan 17. Limited Quantity. Top seed producer! and they are delicious! More seeds means more flowers! Eat the green seeds raw, use them in stir-fry and salads, roast them like pecans or peanuts, or roast them and roll them in spices like cinnamon and sugar, or salt and chili powder.
Jianxuan 17 is one of the top seed producing lotus cultivars in China, providing large seeds that are perfect to peel and eat right out of the pod when they are green. An added side bonus--the changeable flowers are extremely large and very beautiful, dark pink on day one, white with pink tips on day two and then white on day three--something new every day. This lotus will produce flowers throughout the season but it usually begins blooming once the days have gotten hot!.
