Pond Pumps & Accessories

Pond Pumps for Every Application

The right pond pump is essential for circulating water through filters, powering waterfalls, and maintaining dissolved oxygen levels in your koi pond. Play It Koi carries external pumps, submersible pumps, waterfall pumps, and utility pumps from the industry's most trusted manufacturers — including Sequence, PerformancePro, Aqua-Flo, PondMax, and Atlantic Water Gardens.

External vs. Submersible Pond Pumps

External pumps sit outside the pond and connect via plumbing. They're the preferred choice for serious koi keepers because they run more efficiently, last longer, and are easier to service. The Sequence 1000 and PerformancePro Artesian2 are top sellers for ponds needing high flow at low head pressure. Submersible pumps sit directly in the water and are ideal for smaller ponds, fountains, and waterfall applications where simplicity matters most.

Sizing Your Pond Pump

A properly sized pump should circulate your entire pond volume at least once every two hours. For a 5,000-gallon koi pond, target 2,500 GPH minimum at your system's total dynamic head (TDH). Always check the pump's performance curve at your actual head height — a pump rated at 5,000 GPH at zero feet may only deliver 2,000 GPH at 10 feet of head. Pro tip: factor in friction loss from elbows, valves, and UV units when calculating TDH.

Pump Accessories & Maintenance

Keep your pump running efficiently with regular impeller inspections and replacement parts. Proper pond plumbing with check valves and unions simplifies seasonal maintenance. For systems running a pond filter and UV clarifier in series, ensure your pump delivers adequate flow at the combined head pressure.

Energy-Efficient Pumping Solutions

Modern variable-speed and energy-efficient pond pumps can save hundreds of dollars annually on electricity. Sequence and PerformancePro models are engineered for 24/7 operation with minimal energy draw. For pond aeration, consider pairing a dedicated air pump with your main circulation pump for maximum oxygen transfer.
