Bowl & Miniature Lotus

Bowl lotus are the smallest lotus we sell, small enough to grow in a glazed bowl on a patio table, on a balcony or in a small water feature, with no pond needed. Most stand 18 inches tall or less, and the micro and miniature types (sometimes sold as exquisite bowl lotus) top out around 6 to 12 inches. The flowers are true lotus blooms in miniature: 'Momo Botan Minima' is a bright red double first bred in Japan, and 'Lady Bug' is a tiny red lotus that flowers all summer.

A micro lotus can grow in a container only 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Most bowl lotus do well in one 6 to 15 inches across, kept shallow, with 2 to 12 inches of water over the crown once established. Too much depth is the usual reason a bowl lotus fails: set one under two feet of water and it will not grow. Give it full sun, at least 6 hours a day, and start the tuber under 2 to 4 inches of water. Our lotus planting instructions have the rest.

Looking for something a little taller? Dwarf lotus, about 18 to 24 inches, have their own page: Dwarf & Small Lotus. A few varieties change size with their pot and appear on both pages, so check each listing's height. Lotus ship as dormant bare root tubers in spring, with flat $18 shipping however many you order.
