Automatic Water Fill Valves for Ponds, Fountains and Waterfalls
A pond auto fill valve keeps your pond, fountain or pondless waterfall at the right water level without dragging out the garden hose. Most use a float: when evaporation or waterfall splash lowers the water, the float drops and opens the valve, and once the water is back to the level you set, the float rises and shuts it off. You will also see them called float valves, water levelers, automatic pond fillers or auto top offs. Why Use an Auto Fill Valve
Ponds lose water every day, and more in hot, windy weather. If the level drops too far, a skimmer can stop pulling water and your pond pump can run dry. An auto fill valve replaces that water a little at a time, which protects the pump and avoids the big swings in water chemistry that come from adding a lot of fresh water at once.

Kits matched to your equipment. Several brands make auto fill kits for their own skimmers, pump vaults and basins:
Blue Thumb Automatic Water Fill Kit: designed for Blue Thumb Elite skimmers and Pump Canyons.
Helix Auto-Fill Kit: installs at the top of the Helix skimmer.
Atlantic Water Gardens Auto Fill Kit (AF1000): fits Atlantic skimmers, pump vaults, Colorfalls and fountain basins, with fittings for garden hose, 1/2" irrigation line or 1/2" PVC.

Water fill valves and float valves. The Aquascape Water Fill Valve 200 (up to 3 gallons per minute) and Compact Water Fill Valve (up to 1.5 gallons per minute) add water to ponds, fountains and pondless waterfalls. The Aquascape Hudson Water Fill Valve has an adjustable mounting plate, so you can change the water level after installation. Teton mechanical float valves use an adjustable float arm and come in a 1/2" plastic or 1/4" x 1/2" brass version.
Fountain Auto Fill Kits
The Blue Thumb AutoFill Water Kit for Fountain Basins is designed for Blue Thumb fountain basins and AquaBox basins and hooks up to any 1/2" line or garden hose. If your water feature has no skimmer or pump vault, the Blue Thumb Molded Autofill Chamber gives the valve a low-profile home that is easy to hide, with a snap-on lid for maintenance.
Installation Tips
Run a water line from an outdoor spigot or irrigation line. The Aquascape Fill Valve Spigot Quick Connect threads onto a hose spigot and takes 1/4" poly pipe, and Aquascape WFV Poly Pipe comes in a 100 ft roll for the run to your skimmer or vault.
Watch the water pressure. Blue Thumb recommends a 30 PSI regulator with its kits, because higher pressure can keep the valve from shutting off.
Set the valve to shut off at your normal water level.
If the valve starts adding much more water than usual, check for a leak instead of blaming evaporation.
Tap water can carry chlorine or chloramine, so keep a pond water conditioner on hand for larger refills.
