Marginal Water Plants

Marginal water plants grow in shallow water or in moist soil around the edge of the water garden, softening the line where the pond meets the land. They are the most varied group of pond plants, from rushes and cattails to flowering pickerel rush, iris and cannas, and many are just as at home in a bog garden or bog filter. Each listing gives its own planting depth.

Shop shallow water plants for a planting shelf, bog and moist soil plants for the wet edge, tall pond plants for screens and backdrops, and pond plants for shade. Water iris, canna lilies and taro have their own pages.

These marginal water plants ship bare root, so don't forget pond plant soil and planting containers when you order. Our planting instructions cover potting and care for bog and marginal plants. Plant orders over $99 ship free; lotus ship separately at a flat $18.
