Famous Leteux-Meyer Formulation — Improved

Ich-X® uses the most widely respected formulation for treating ich, using a less-toxic form of malachite green that is less taxing on biological filtration and safe for scaleless and sensitive fish like Corydoras. Ich-X® is also useful in the treatment of other protozoan-caused diseases (including oodinium / velvet) and fungal infections.

Dosing Instructions

Standard Dose (Pond Formulation)

Add 1 teaspoon (~5 mL) per 50 gallons of pond water. This produces a treatment concentration of approximately 0.05 mg/L malachite green and 15 mg/L formalin.

Pre-Treatment

Perform a large initial water change (at least 1/3 of the pond's volume) before starting treatment. It may be necessary to perform the water change at least 24 hours in advance so that water conditioners can be added. Condition new water with Hikari Ultimate® or Stress-X™ plus Liquid Buffered ClorAm-X®.

Treatment Duration & Re-Dose

Continue treatment uninterrupted for 3 days after all visible signs of disease cease. Do not re-dose more often than once every 8 hours. Use a separate quarantine / treatment tank when possible. Make at least a 1/3 water change before each dosage using sulfate-free water conditioners.

Filtration During Treatment

Remove activated carbon from the filter; rinse or replace mechanical media but maintain biological filtration.

Stress Response

Heavily diseased fish must be treated with caution. If signs of stress increase during treatment ("piping" / gulping at the surface, heavy coughing, head or body jerking, sudden unprovoked darting), perform an immediate 50%+ water change. Removing the fish to untreated water will help mitigate adverse reactions.

Contraindications

• Do not combine with any other drugs or treatments, including salt treatment.
• Do not use on fish that have a history of problems with formalin / malachite-green-containing treatments.
• Do not use in ponds where the exact volume of water is unknown — accidental overdose can be lethal.
• Do not exceed the standard dosage unless specifically recommended by another authoritative source. Do not re-dose more often than once every 8 hours.
• Do not use where significant pre-treatment water changes are not possible.
• Avoid sulfur- or sulfinite-based water conditioners during treatment.
• Use with caution in systems containing shrimp, crayfish, snails, or other invertebrates — observe their reactions and remove them from treated water if adverse reactions appear.
• Not for human or veterinary medical use. Not for use on food or game fish. Not for use in open waterways, rivers, streams, canals, irrigation ditches, lakes, recreational ponds, or in pond systems that empty into any of those.
• Permanent staining: Ich-X® will permanently stain silicone, rocks, plastics, and fabrics.
• DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE — frozen Ich-X® becomes lethal to fish.
• Avoid skin and eye contact. May be fatal if swallowed. Keep out of reach of children. Wash thoroughly with soap and warm water after handling.
• California Proposition 65: Contains formaldehyde and other ingredients known to the State of California to be potential or actual carcinogens or teratogens.
