The shaft seal is the wear part in every PerformancePro pump. PerformancePro says to replace it as soon as it starts to leak, because the seal faces wear the way tires do, and to replace it every year on critical systems.
Choose a complete seal kit for a full rebuild, or the shaft seal alone if the rest of your O-rings are in good shape. Pick your pump series (it's printed on the pump label), then fresh water or salt/hard water.

The fresh water seal (MPS-513) is 316 stainless steel with carbon and ceramic faces and Buna trim. The salt and hard water seal (MPS-517) is PTFE-coated stainless steel with silicon carbide faces and Buna trim. PerformancePro lists the same two seals for Artesian2, ArtesianPro, Cascade and Artesian Classic pumps.
Converting a fresh water pump for salt water? PerformancePro's salt water option pairs the MPS-517 seal with a PVC shaft sleeve (MPS-PVC), which you'll find in our PerformancePro O-rings, set screws and drain plugs listing.
Your owner's manual walks through seal replacement step by step. Handle the new seal with care: the polished faces are easy to damage, so press the seal in by its metal collar and never touch the carbon face.
