Before You Buy: Food Size and Mounting

Check your food first. The feeder takes pellets from 3 to 10 mm, so make sure what you feed falls in that range.

Then decide where it will stand. You can push it into the ground beside the pond on its insert bars, or screw it down to a board or other firm surface. Either way, it has to be solid enough that it can't topple into the water.

Programming the Feeds

Everything is set on the display panel: the clock, up to six feeding times a day, how long each feed runs and how far it throws. Each feed can run anywhere from 0 to 20 seconds. Setting a stage to 0 skips it.

Throw distance has three settings. PondMAX puts S at about 3 ft, M at about 6 ft and L at about 9 ft, and you can take the feeding cover off if you need more reach than that.

To feed by hand, hold RUN for 3 seconds and it dispenses for 3 seconds.

Power, Storage and Warranty

Solar does the charging, and PondMAX rates a full charge at 3 months of continuous use. If the battery runs flat, you can plug in a 12V / 1.66A adapter, sold separately, through its charging socket. When the feeder will sit unused for a long stretch, turn off the external switch to protect the battery's service life.

If the impeller turns but no feed is thrown, the feed has formed lumps; break it up. If the display is on but the feeder doesn't respond, the impeller is stuck: clear out whatever is caught in it.

The feeder carries a 2-year limited warranty from PondMAX.
