Tiene fama de aportar un toque brillante con sus tallos gruesos y de color rojo vivo, ya sean veteados o macizos, además del contraste con sus enormes hojas lanceoladas de color verde lima. Flores de color azul acero que se asientan sobre tallos individuales largos y estrechos muy por encima del follaje. Florece de verano a fines del verano, en suelo húmedo o con 15 cm de agua (planta madura). Zona 8-10
