Dosing Instructions

Standard Dose

Add 1 teaspoon (~5 mL) per 10 gallons of water to fully condition water for (1) new aquariums or ponds, (2) after or during water additions, or (3) before adding new fish, amphibians, invertebrates, or plants. For larger applications: 1 fl. oz. per 60 gallons of water.

Ammonia Removal Adjustment

Use Ultimate® as needed to eliminate and control ammonia at the regular dosage rate for each 1 mg/L (or fraction thereof) of measured total ammonia, or for each 0.85 mg/L of measured total ammonia-nitrogen.

Recommendations

Perform regular water changes to keep alkalinity (acid-neutralizing capacity) and pH stable. Use a salicylate (indolphenol)-type total-ammonia test kit. For dissolved-oxygen (DO) testing use either a DO meter or an indigo-carmine test. Ultimate® may be used at the regular dosage to stop or destroy permanganate treatments.

Contraindications

• Do not combine with permanganate-based or chlorite/chlorate-based treatments.
• Do not use with unchelated ("free") copper medications — the metal will be precipitated or chelated and partially or wholly inactivated.
• Do not use with treatments containing malachite green, methylene blue, or related dyes — Ultimate® will reduce these dyes and inactivate them.
• Care should be taken when used alongside water conditioners containing hydroxymethanesulfinates, hydrosulfites, or formaldehyde-sulfoxylates (recognizable by their characteristic sulfurous or sewage-like odor).
• Test-kit interference: Treated water gives false (high) or off-scale readings on Nessler's-reagent ammonia kits, and false (low or zero) readings on Winkler / modified-Winkler dissolved-oxygen kits. Use salicylate / phenol-hypochlorite ammonia kits and indigo-carmine DO kits or DO meters instead.
