Description
White Snowflake is a fast-growing, perennial water plant, that produces an abundance of small, star-shaped, small, white flowers, with yellow centers. The flowers have unusual feathery edges and are formed above the floating leaves with 2-4 cm stalks. While in bloom, these look like snowflakes sitting atop the water's surface. The lily pad like leaves are heavily variegated green and burgundy.
It's common name is floating heart, because of the heart-shaped green leaves, which lie on the water surface, like those of waterlilies. While they resemble water lilies, they are not related.
They bloom in summer, and require full sun to partial shade. Water Snowflake are an excellent choice for small ponds, as they spread quickly to between 12-24 inches, and provide good over for small fish. Water Snowflake grow in water depths between 4-24 inches. White Snowflake can be left floating, but will grow best if planted. The mother plant has a short, thick stem, which is rooted in the mud at the bottom of the pond. Water Snowflake can be planted the same as tropical water lilies.
