What's in the Box
You get the spillway box itself, a liner bracket, a filter mat, a mesh bag and a universal hose adapter. The mesh bag holds filter substrate on top of the mat.
Installation
- Push the universal hose adapter through the side hole, seat the O-ring inside the box over the threads, and hand-tighten the nut.
- Run kink-free hose from your pump to the spillway and secure it with a hose clamp.
- Lay the filter mat in the box.
- Fill the mesh bag with substrate and set it on top of the mat.
Cleaning and Winter Care
Check the mat when it looks dirty or the flow over the spillway drops. Pull it out, tap it on a raised, flat surface to shake the sediment loose, then rinse it. Pond water is the suggested rinse, since tap water, chlorine, soap and other chemicals can kill the beneficial organisms that live on the mat.
If you shut the waterfall off for winter, drain the spillway and any tubing above ground. Standing water freezes, and the ice can split valves and rigid fittings.
