PondMAX Ultra Series Pressure Filters provide a smart and efficient solution for new or existing water features, fish ponds, water gardens and fountains. The PondMAX Pressure Filter is a complete filtration system for crystal clear water.

Ultra Series Features (PF750–PF7200):

NOTE: Heavily stocked ponds in full sun positions may require greater filtration than below.

UV-C lamp and cord apply to the UV models only. The Euro Series PF1000 and PF2000 have no UV option.

Ultra Series (PF750–PF7200): Installation

Before you plumb anything, decide where the clean water will come back in. Bring it back at the opposite end of the pond from your pump's intake.

• Match the pump to the filter. If the pump moves more water than the filter's maximum flow in the table above, turn it down or bleed part of it off through a Y fitting.
• The hose tails are stepped. Cut off every step smaller than your hose, and run the largest hose the filter will take.
• For a UV model, have a licensed electrician put a weatherproof outlet within reach of the filter's cord, on a GFCI-protected circuit.
• Start the pump first, then plug in the UV. The lamp should never be on without water flowing past it.
• Leave the filter running 24 hours a day. It needs constant flow to work properly.
• Don't install or store it anywhere that gets extreme heat or cold.

Ultra Series: Backwashing and Deep Cleaning

Routine cleaning doesn't mean opening the canister. With the filter still running, attach a hose to the backwash outlet and lead it to a garden bed or a drain, then open the valve on that outlet (the PF750 doesn't have one, as noted above). Turn the dial on top to clean and crank the handle counterclockwise until the water coming out runs clear. Then set the dial back to filter mode and close the valve.

When the foams need more than a backwash, turn off the pump, unplug the filter if it has UV, and take the lid off. Rinse the foam rings in pond water or dechlorinated water rather than straight from the tap, because chlorine kills the bacteria living in them, and squeeze them out hard. If your model has the bio-media ring (PF2400 and up), only knock the excess sludge off the spheres. The brown film left behind is beneficial bacteria doing its job. Reassemble with the foams alternating blue and yellow.

Ultra Series: UV-C Lamp

Plan on a new UV-C lamp every 12 months. To see whether it's on, look into the clear UV-C indicator on top of the filter for a purple glow. If the cord gets damaged it can't be replaced by itself; the whole UV-C assembly has to be. For service parts, see our PondMAX Pressurized Filter Replacement Parts page.

Euro Series PF1000 and PF2000

The PF1000 and PF2000 are a different, Europe-made design, so the Ultra Series notes above don't apply to them. When you size one, be sure which rating you're reading. A PF1000 is rated for 1,000 gallons in a shaded pond with no fish, but only 500 gallons with fish in full sun. The PF2000 handles 2,000 gallons without fish in shade and 1,000 gallons with fish in full sun.

Water from your pump enters the IN port and works through five stages: a fine sponge, a coarse sponge, Bio-Sphere media, a Kinshi-mat and a settling chamber. It leaves through OUT and goes back to the pond. The housing is made to stand up to UV rays and knocks.

• Place it at least 3 ft (1 m) back from the pond edge, where it can't flood or tip into the water. You can bury it partway to hide it, but it must never be submerged.
• To backwash, set it up with the pump switched off: open the safety valve and run a hose from the DIRTY outlet to wherever the rinse water can go. Then switch the pump back on and, with the filter running, turn the top knob to CLEAN. The flow reverses and flushes debris out of the media and down that hose. When the water runs clear, return the knob to WORK and shut the safety valve.
• For a deeper clean, unclip the lid, lift out the sponges, Bio-Spheres and Kinshi-mat, and rinse them under running water. Skip detergents, which harm the beneficial bacteria. Put everything back in its original order and check the knob is on WORK when you restart.
• It isn't made for freezing weather, so drain it and store it indoors over winter. Keep the water at or below 95°F (35°C), and never connect it to a public water supply.
• The Euro Series carries a 2-year limited warranty. The filter sponge and lid O-ring are wear items and aren't covered. Replacement Kinshi-mats, lid O-rings, reducers and small hose tails are on our PF1000 and PF2000 replacement parts page.
