Description

A must-have for all pond owners! The Cattail is a perennial and is easily grown in full sun to part shade in water up to 12 inches deep. Cattails are wetland plants with a unique flowering spike, flat blade-like leaves that reach heights from 3 to 10 feet. They are most commonly found in large marshes and on the edge of ponds.

At order placement, these are cut down at the point of shipment at a height of approximately 12-14 inches unless you specify otherwise (additional shipping costs may apply if they are non-standard height). This is the ideal height for planting a cat tail as they are still strong and long enough to plant, while not being so tall that they risk being easily blown over. Upon receipt, plant the cat tail rhizome into soil/mud of your pond 3-4 inches deep, but still allowing the top of the stalk to be above water level. You may also pot these in 1 gallon containers, placing one plant in each container in some heavy loam soil. In the right conditions, you can expect the cattail to grow and spread. The rhizome will begin to branch out under the soil creating additional stalks to grow. They can grow approximately 1 foot in diameter each year and reach heights most commonly of 4-6 ft, but can grow as tall as 10ft.

But why settle for just one type of cattail when you can have a whole family? Mix and match with the miniature cattail and the graceful cattail for a truly unique and interesting variety.
