Noted for its prominent lavender-blue flowers and fleshy, rounded, floating leaves, water hyacinth grows quickly in warm water. A few plants bought in the spring can easily turn into a few hundred by fall (they are excellent for compost in the perennial border or the vegetable garden). Plants propagate readily from leaf shoots which develop into new plants, like strawberry plants. It is prohibited from sale or possession in southern states. Where it can be grown legally it is a welcome addition to the water garden for its ability to filter out unwanted nutrients and for its attractive flowers. Although each flower lasts only a day or two, they are borne in abundance.
Water Hyacinth provides many natural benefits to your pond:
  • Water Hyacinth provides great natural protection and cover for your koi from heron and other preditors.
  • These oxygenating plants keep the water clean and filtered in your water garden.
  • They serve as natural biofilters to your pond
  • Controls algae by absorbing nutrients from the water

Shipping Expectations: Minimum order quantity for shipping = 6. No minimum quantity for in-store purchases. Please note that there is a very good chance of you receiving Hyacinths without flowers. With proper care, some heat, and a little luck, the Hyacinths will flower. This plant ships with trimmed roots as sometimes they tend to fall off during transit due to heat. In case roots fall off upon receiving them, just place them in your pond and give them a couple of weeks so they can re-establish themselves. We've found the best success in shipping these when we send them earlier in the week to avoid lengthier shipping times caused by carriers weekend breaks. Orders placed Wed-Friday are likely to be shipped the following Monday.

Ducks ate it

Would have liked for it to have better root system as my ducks ate all of this too before it had a chance to take root. I bought this to help my duck pond have oxygen in the water.
