Pond Portals were created to make the process of adding a koi viewing window easy and affordable without compromising on strength, safety, or quality. Whether you're a DIYer or a contractor, Pond Portals provide everything you need to transform your pond into a breathtaking centerpiece.

Which glass should I choose?

Every Pond Portal uses laminated tempered safety glass in the same 316 stainless frame, and both options install identically. The difference is the glass itself:

  • Scratch Resistant — the practical choice. Built to take the algae scraper. If you'll be cleaning the inside face regularly, this is the glass that stays clear through years of it.
  • Ultra Clear — low-iron glass. Standard glass carries a faint green cast that deepens with thickness; low-iron removes it, so whites read white and reds read red. Stunning — and, in the manufacturer's own words, “slightly less scratch resistant.” Choose it when the window is the feature of the garden rather than a working surface.

Will it fit my pond?

Sizes are listed height × width — a 24″H × 48″W window is 4 feet wide and 2 feet tall. Before you order, check these five things:

  • Wall type: a standard 8″ concrete block (CMU) or cast concrete wall. The frame is 8½″ deep, so the glass stands about ½″–¾″ proud to allow for a veneer. A veneer is optional — without one, you simply pack behind the retaining flange to finish flush.
  • Wall length: allow the window's width plus roughly 3″ of block either side. A 48″ window wants about 4 ft 6 in of straight wall.
  • Opening: the masonry opening is the frame plus a ⅜″ mortar joint on three sides — the portal is open at the top, which is what lets the water come right up to the glass.
  • Height off the floor: the portal is designed to rest on at least one course of 8″ block.
  • Liner: the liner seals between two stainless flanges. EPDM, LLDPE, HDPE/LDPE, RPE, flexible composite and vinyl all work, and there's a fibreglass method too. Leave the liner slack at the frame — never pull it tight.

Building new or retrofitting? Both work. New builds set the frame as the wall goes up. For an existing block or cast concrete wall, the manual covers the retrofit method — drill and epoxy the anchor posts, bed on mortar, slide the frame in.

Key Features

  • Sizes: five stock sizes from 16″H × 30″W up to 32″H × 80″W, listed height first. Custom sizes are made to order — if none of the stock sizes suits your wall, tell us your opening and we'll quote it.
  • Engineered for Ease: The hard work is done for you. Pond Portals are engineered to ensure strength, integrity, and durability while simplifying the installation process.
  • Safety First: The laminated tempered glass used in Pond Portals is double the thickness of what is “required,” ensuring unmatched safety, longevity, and peace of mind. It is a two-ply laminate: if the outer ply is ever broken, the second layer is designed to hold the water while you draw the pond down.
  • Complete Installation Kit: Each order includes laminated tempered glass, sealant, fasteners, a retaining flange, and a stainless steel pond window frame—everything you need for a seamless installation.
  • Year-round viewing: a covered pond is normally a pond you can't see. A window keeps the view open right through winter. As one owner put it after building his winter cover: “viewing the fish would have ended until May, but fortunately it continues.”
  • Affordable Luxury: Get professional-grade results without the premium price tag.

Why Choose Pond Portals?

  • Family-Owned Excellence: A family-run business dedicated to creating products that last a lifetime.
  • Innovative Design: Unlike traditional recessed windows that create a shaded appearance, Pond Portals extend the pond through the wall into your backyard, creating a striking focal point.
  • Excellent for Koi Health Monitoring: problems show themselves from the side long before they show from above.
  • Unmatched Durability: 316 stainless — the marine grade — built to resist surface rust and degradation.
  • DIY-Friendly: Designed to empower DIYers and contractors alike with straightforward installation and professional results.

What's Included in Every Standard Order?

  • Laminated tempered glass (double the required thickness for added safety)
  • Three tubes of pond-safe sealant
  • Fasteners and rubber offsets
  • Retaining flange
  • 316 stainless steel pond window frame
  • Full owner's manual — 43 pages, 16 illustrated steps, foundation and rebar detail, cure times and maintenance

Want to read the manual before you buy? Ask us and we'll send it over — we'd rather you knew exactly what's involved first.

Warranty

  • Limited lifetime warranty on the 316 stainless steel frame, to the original purchaser.
  • Glass is covered up to delivery — please inspect it on arrival, as it is excluded once delivery is accepted.
  • Non-transferable; proof of purchase required.
  • Repair or replacement of the stainless components at the manufacturer's discretion.

Common questions

How do I clean algae off the glass?
A hard plastic scraper handles most algae — vigorous scraping works better than gentle scrubbing. A long-handled version saves you leaning in. For the tougher species, a glass blade scraper works, but test carefully first and go easy: if you chose Ultra Clear, that low-iron glass is slightly softer than the scratch-resistant option.

Will my koi jump out over the window?
Not something owners report. Fish commonly jump for the first few days in a new environment, and again when spawning. If it continues beyond that, it usually points to water quality or something startling them rather than the window. Some builders run the wall cap along a lintel above the opening, though that's an aesthetic choice rather than a fix.

Can you ship outside the US?
Yes — we've shipped to Canada, including arranging the customs broker. Get in touch before ordering and we'll walk you through it.

What if none of the stock sizes fits?
Custom sizes are made to order. Send us your opening dimensions and we'll quote. Custom builds are non-returnable, so we'll confirm every measurement with you first.

Effortless. Elegant. Built to last. Make your koi pond the envy of every visitor, with Pond Portals — where professional engineering meets effortless elegance!
