Mounting it outside the pond:
Planning to run an EV pump out of the water? It has to go in as an inline, flooded-suction installation; otherwise, install it fully submerged. From the EV1800 up you can also lay the pump on its side or stand it upright, which helps in a tight or custom spot.
What SMART MAG actually does:
It brings the motor up with a soft start instead of a jolt, then adjusts motor speed to get the most flow it can under the conditions it is working in. If the impeller jams, power is cut for 3 seconds and the pump tries again, up to 3 times. Still stuck? It drops into a low-power state and waits until you switch it off and do the maintenance. That helps protect the motor from burning out on heat when water stops moving through it.
Day-to-day care:
There is one moving part, the impeller, and taking the pump apart needs no special tools. The motor and electrical parts are sealed in epoxy resin, and water does the cooling and lubricating, so the pump needs no oil or grease. It is rated for continuous duty, so running it 24/7 is normal.
