How to Plant & Care for Lotus
Description
Nelumbo nucifera ‘Green’ — bowl lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.
All your friends will be green with envy when they see this compact little green flower! Most 'green' lotus turn yellow almost immediately once they open but 'Prairie Star' retains its green color for several days. 'Prairie Star' is a very small plant and will grow in a miniature pot, making it easy to bring inside for a few days when it is blooming. We prefer to grow it in a slightly larger pot so it can stretch to its full potential. We recommend this for the experienced lotus grower.
At a glance
- Flower color: Green (Yellow)
- Flower type: Semi-Double, 21-50 petals
- Plant height: Bowl, up 13" tall
- Container: 6" and wider, 4"-8" deep
As a bowl lotus, this one settles at 2 to 12 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered. Pot size, soil and the rest of the method are in the lotus planting instructions.

Growing it as a micro lotus
This cultivar will also grow as a micro lotus in a smaller container. Add “TO BE GROWN IN SMALL POT” in the comment box at checkout and we will pot it accordingly.
