How to Plant & Care for Lotus
Description
Nelumbo nucifera 'Buddha in Clear Water', large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.
Buddha in Clear Water is a tall lotus with large, pure white flowers. Broad petals open around a green seedpod and a ring of golden stamens, the classic lotus look.
The flowers sit well above the leaves. It's a vigorous, reliable bloomer and a good choice if you want tall stems and big white flowers as a focal point.
At a glance
- Flower color: Pure white
- Flower type: Single, fewer than 20 petals
- Plant height: Tall, 48" and up
- Container: 20" and wider, 12"-18" deep
As a large pond lotus, this one settles at 12 to 24 inches of water over the crown once established. Start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered. Pot size, soil and the rest of the method are in the lotus planting instructions.
