Description
Tufts of dark blue green foliage tumble haphazardly over each other. Chocolate brown flowers and seed heads are carried on stems that rise just above the foliage. Black flowering sedge makes a nice groundcover for low areas or along a stream or pond. It grows best in wet soil in part shade to full shade, and it will also grow in shallow water about 3 to 4 inches deep. It takes full sun only where the soil stays wet. Plants stay low, about 6 to 9 inches tall.
