In the pond or beside it:
Decide where the pump will sit before you choose a size, because the series splits in two here. FP550 through FP2050 will run submerged or outside the pond, as long as the intake stays below the water line. FP2450, FP3050 and FP3950 are different: their manual calls for fully submerged operation.
If it runs dry or jams:
On FP1150 through FP3950, SMARTMAG protection notices a dry run or a blocked impeller, switches the pump off and tries to restart it. If the fault is still there after its restart attempts, the pump stays off until you unplug it and fix the cause. The two smallest models, FP550 and FP750, rely on a thermal protector that resets itself instead.
Cleaning:
You can get at the rotating parts for routine cleaning, and a clean intake and impeller helps keep the flow up. Go gently with the ceramic impeller shaft when you do. It resists wear, but it is fragile.
Plumbing and power:
The multistage threaded hose-tail adapters let you connect either hard pipe or flexible hose, in several diameters depending on the model. Every model runs on 120 V, 60 Hz. Plan on fresh water; that is what the series is designed for. The pumps are made in Europe.

The size list above gives you flow only. Here are head height, wattage and outlet size for the five small-body models, FP550 to FP2050.

The three large-body models draw 90 W (FP2450), 110 W (FP3050) and 160 W (FP3950), and all three take a 1-1/2" outlet. Max head is 11.5 ft on the FP2450, 15.0 ft on the FP3050 and 15.5 ft on the FP3950.
