Is It Right for Your Pond?

Because it sits inside the pond, you get surface skimming without cutting your liner or changing how the pond is built. Size your pump first: its flow has to fall inside the range in the specs above. Get that wrong and the skimmer may barely skim.

How It Handles Changing Water Levels:

The floating sleeve on top rises and falls with the water, through up to 6 in. of change, so evaporation and refilling don't stop it working. Leaves and other floating debris drop into the removable basket under the sleeve, and the water carries on down the center pipe to your pump.

Setting It Up:

  • Fit the outlet fitting to the base, put the center pipe together, seat the basket and floating sleeve, then mount the pipe on the base.
  • Stand it on a flat, level spot. A few small rocks under the base will level it if the floor isn't flat.
  • Load the receptacle base with rocks, bricks or chunks of concrete so it stays put.
  • Plumb it to your pump with flexible PVC or rigid PVC pipe. Pipe isn't included.

Keeping It Working:

Expect to empty the basket every week or two, more or less often depending on what lands in your pond. Unplug the pump, lift the floating sleeve off the center pipe, pull the basket, clear it by hand, and rinse it off with pond water or a garden hose. If skimming slows or stops, check the basket first, then the plumbing for damage, then whether your pump is still delivering enough flow.

Parts wear over time on any skimmer. Our PS300 replacement parts listing sells a replacement floating sleeve and debris basket.

Warranty: 2 years against defects in materials and workmanship. Consumable parts such as the debris basket aren't covered, and a breakdown caused by a neglected, clogged basket isn't either.
