Water Lettuce gets its name from its appearance as it resembles a floating open head of lettuce. The leaves are spongy near the base, with dense soft pubescence on obvious parallel veins. Leaves are a soft green color and have prominent parallel veins and dense white hairs covering the leaf surface.
The roots are numerous, feathery and dense. They hang unbranched 6-8 inches below the water, and each root is covered with fine root hairs which give them a feather-like appearance.
The Water lettuce plant is a favorite treat or snack food for koi fish who will gobble them up given the chance.
Cannot be shipped to AL, FL, LA, MS, SC, TX, and WI. It cannot be shipped to many parts of CA as it's regulated by county in CA. This plant may ship with trimmed roots as sometimes they tend to fall off during transit due to heat. In case roots fall off upon receiving them, just place them in your pond and give them a couple of weeks so they can re-establish themselves. Plants Ship Mon-Wed Only, regardless of shipping method selected at Checkout.
Don't forget: Many PIK customers enjoy using the Nycon Floating Plant Islands to help control the growth of the Water Hyacinth and help prevent them from floating away.
