Description
Nelumbo nucifera — large pond lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.
Vegetable tubers. From our friends at Yileen Water Gardens. Big round baseball size tubers are a bit differently shaped than the tubers of most common vegetable varieties but they are just as delicious! The flowers are white but like most vegetable varieties this lotus doesn't bloom often since all the energy is directed to producing tubers. The large, deep green leaves are beautiful, though, so this plant serves double duty "” it is picturesque as well as good food!

As a large pond lotus, this one settles at 12 to 24 inches of water over the crown once established — start a new tuber under 2 to 4 inches and raise the level as it pushes aerial leaves, with the growing tip left uncovered.
