Description
Nelumbo nucifera 'Red Makeup', medium lotus, shipped as a dormant lotus tuber.
Red Makeup is a medium lotus in a deep, saturated crimson red to magenta. The broad, pointed petals stand apart in open tiers, so the flower has a clear star shape and the center stays in view.
The color runs from wine red on the outer petals to a brighter pink-red where the sun reaches the inner surfaces. What sets it apart is the stamens: a dense ring of pink-red filaments around a yellow-green seedpod, with a few golden-orange ones mixed in. The whole flower looks painted, and the name fits.

As a medium lotus, this one settles at 6 to 18 inches of water over the crown once established.
