Before you buy:
The PV is a clean-water pump, mainly for fountains and features that stay free of debris. It comes with a large pre-filter screen and a sponge. For more protection, especially outdoors, the threaded inlet accepts an optional PondMAX SP250 Submersible Pre-filter.
Adding a fountain head:
All three models, PV250, PV350 and PV550, can take an optional fountain kit. If you fit one, get the SP250 pre-filter as well. The manufacturer strongly recommends it, because it strains particles out before they can block the nozzle. Neither the kit nor the pre-filter comes with the pump.
Setting the flow and looking after it:
Too much water for your feature? Turn it down with the flow control built into the front filter screen. Never let it run dry, and clean it regularly, because a restricted pump overheats. The impeller, on a ceramic shaft, is the only moving part and is easy to reach. The motor is sealed in epoxy and magnetically driven, and water cools and lubricates it, so no oil or grease is needed. It is continuous-rated for 24/7 running.
Flow at height and connections:
The max GPH in the table above is not what you get once the water has to climb, so check the 2 ft and 4 ft figures against your fountain or feature.
